Committees

Each committee in the National AI Youth Council specializes on a different aspect of artificial intelligence

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee leads the council as they work on various policies, projects, and initiatives.

  • Council Chair: leads the board and represents the council, oversees board meetings and ensures effective decision-making 
  • Secretary: manages records, meeting minutes, and correspondence for the council
  • Treasurer: oversees financial matters & budgeting, applies for grants, provides financial reports 
  • Committee Managers: lead initiatives of each specific committee in the council

Education & Outreach Committee

The Education & Outreach Committee focuses on promoting AI education and awareness. Their initiatives include:

  • Developing AI curriculum for schools and universities 
  • Hosting presentations, workshops, webinars, and seminars to educate others about the ethical implications of AI 
  • Collaborating with educational institutions to integrate AI studies into their computer science courses
  • Creating online resources and educational materials to educate the youth regarding the impacts of AI

Innovation & Research Committee

T‎‎‎‎he Innovation & Research Committee focuses on fostering AI innovation and research among youth. Their initiatives include:

  • Writing research papers on topics related to the ethical aspects of AI such as algorithmic bias, data privacy, the impacts of AI on job displacement, and the effects of AI on human rights
  • Conducting research studies & surveys to evaluate the impacts of AI (data collection) 
  • Submitting/publishing research to AI competitions/conferences as well as renowned journals 
  • Partnerships & outreach efforts with research institutions and tech companies 

Policy & Advocacy Committee

The Policy & Advocacy Committee focuses on advocating for youth perspectives in AI policymaking. Their initiatives include:

  • Writing/sponsoring local, state, and national AI bills & policy recommendations
  • Working directly in collaboration with legislative offices to co-sponsor AI-related bills
  • Testifying and planning lobby days to advocate for AI-related legislation and policy
  • Partnerships & outreach efforts with other policy organizations focused on the ethical use of AI
  • Hosting public forums, town halls, and debates on AI policy

Tech Development Committee

The Tech Development Committee focuses on enhancing technical skills in programming and AI development among youth. Their initiatives include:

  • Hosting hackathons, AI-related competitions, coding workshops, bootcamps, and classes for the youth 
  • Mentorship programs for novice programmers looking on to take a role in AI 
  • Inviting industry experts to give talks & hosting panel discussions on various topics related to AI development/programming
  • Programming AI applications/models that can be used for social good
